Silence speaks loud

Oftentimes I think I am a poor writer, always struggling with finding words to describe what I see, what I know, what I want.

I believe that words can never capture the essence of what I know to be true. In fact, once words are used, the truth can lose all meaning. So I speak through images, always carting around a camera, hoping to capture the essence of a moment.

Dot Day

A teacher friend recently told me about Dot Day.  All because she was purchasing sweaters with dots, which she would use on Dot Day at school.

But Dot day isn't about sweaters. It's about pondering what kind of  mark we want to leave on the world.  Mine is slowly expressing itself in my work with gardens, specifically school gardens.

How are you making your mark?  Check out this website.

Hair

I like hair very much.  I like touching it.  More than most people.

That is all.

To develop oneself

Group think - a mode of thinking where participants strive for unanimity...  It' s kind of like being part of a blog community where self expression unites all.  I felt compelled to create this space after the passing of my father as if I needed to place bits of myself out in the universe.  An eloquent writer I am not, so I use pictures who always have much to share, if only you look closely.  I have benefited from the time I have spent thinking about Shades of Blue and what I might share in this my little corner of the universe.  I hope you, who I see reading this right now, can see what I see and be richer inside as I am.   Here's to more time spent being closer to the spirit living inside you.

The feel of Christmas

A walk outside to enjoy a few sparkles.

The table awaits the food prepared just so.

Sangria sweetened with tangelos and pomegranate.

Brussels sprouts, carrots, and yams before cooking.

Ham.

French bread pieces which will be toasted and used in the stuffing.

 The tree.

The desserts.

And it was a good Christmas...

Love is all you need

That Beatles song says it all...

But how is love defined? So many injustices are committed in the name of love. Sometimes love is weaved in ideology making those outside the realm of such ideology deemed unlovable.
Love is listening. Love is being present. Love is allowing self expression. Love is acceptance.

Do you hear your life's song?

A recent Yoga Journal magazine featured an article about the benefits of silence.

We are surronded by noise, a product of technology.  Do you hear your inner song with all the sound pollution?

Walk a labyrinth in silence, be still and listen to the falling leaves, the steaming clothes iron, and the running water in the dish sink.

Sshhhh.....  Find yourself.

Shed a little light

Light sources.  There is somthing to be said for creating soothing, calm, safe places.

We replenish our bodies and souls and get ready to face each day with resolve to make it the best it can be.
I dislile overhead harsh lighting.  Lamps provide the best lighting and bring the added bonus of design choice to incorporate in our safe places.

I love the lamp above, now shinning in my sewing space.

Fun things to do for the Holidays

I am trying to incorporate some relaxing activities in my otherwise harried days.
I want to find my own new Holiday traditions that represent serenity.

I found one shown above. I have never tried this but will do so this year.
Find your favorites on the Safeway website.
Happy Holiday Season to you.

Windows

Windows are forces that connect worlds.
Some windows bring wellness and comfort as does my kitchen window. The lamp spreads just the right amount of light. The coffee grounds being collected will feed the tomato and pepper plants. The cups remind me of summer days at the movies and the ballpark. The plants signify life. And beyond the window lies a place of fun and togetherness.

Essential items

The makeup bag, the tape, and the papers of the day.
This is what I see as I look to my right as I drive.

Happy Birthday to me

Birthdays... I prefer them quiet these days.
I always remember the childhood traditions. The edible bouquet has become a tradition from my workmates. We enjoy the delicious fruit so much.

A birthday song from my husband, the pianist.

And the oldest daughter, another pianist.

Chocolate cheesecake from my dear friend Mary who never forgets my birthday.

A book from husband who supports my many craft endeavours.
My little sister and my Godchild also send happy wishes. I am grateful for that.

Best Friends

I was very fond of dolls made of cloth when I was a wee one. They were soft and became one with me when I hugged them.
This is Molly, Grasshopper's doll given to her by my sister. But Molly is more special to me than anyone else. She brings me back to my childhood.

Hidden beauty

I believe in the quietness of beauty, the kind that perseveres and is steadfast.
